Scott has a beautiful property in the Coolum area. He tells me that he moved to the Sunshine Coast to be able to play more golf. And like all golf addicts, too much golf is never enough.
So Scott decided to add a backyard golf green. He wanted something that would tidy up his entire yard and also something that could help tame his addiction. As you can see from the photo below we were working from scratch. The yard was as bare as can be – but there’s a nice view of Mt. Coolum in the background.
Total grass size is 96m2 and the green is approximately 36m2. We made the green to fit into the L shape of Scott’s backyard and it is loosely modelled on the 4th/14th double green at St. Andrews – with a hump in the middle.
Here’s some of the construction pics:
Scott wanted a hitting tee placed at one end. He will add his own net and can work on his long-game when he gets tired putting and chipping. The tee is also ideal for chipping and pitching. At the other end we added a large area of fringe grass. This helped fill in a dead space while also allowing for chipping practice. It will also serve as a great entertaining area for the backyard when there’s no need for golf.
Here are some images of Scott’s completed backyard golf green.
This is a great little set-up that would be ideal for the serious or not so serious golfer. Scott wanted the very best so we included our Platinum Cups which are fantastic when you want some really serious putting practise. His backyard will now provide him years of enjoyment and will certainly cut down on lawn mowing and gardening. Even though it’s a relatively small green, the interesting design and the chipping options gives Scott plenty of playing options. The addition of the hitting tee and net is also a great idea.
All up, this was a great little project and Bruce was happy he had a job close to home (got to sleep in his own bed for a change). Total install time was two days.
